ROYAL SOCIETY SIX CORD CORDICHET Small Ball, Size 50:
Size1- 5 balls. Size 2 - 6 balls.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 12.
A small pearl button.

GAUGE: Each motif measures about 1 1/2 inches in diameter. 2 picot loops make 1 inch; 4 rows make 1 inch. Directions are written for Toddler size 1; Toddler size 2 appears in parentheses.

Starting at neck edge, ch 151 to measure 11 inches. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 8 ch, * 2 sc in next ch (an increase made), sc in next 9 ch. Repeat from * 12 times; sc in remaining ch (163 sts). Ch 1, turn.
2nd row: Sc in 1st sc, * ch 6, sc in 4th ch from hook, (p made), ch 5, sc in 4th ch from hook, ch 3 (a p loop made), sk 5 sts, sc in next st. Repeat from * across (27 p loops). Fasten off.

First Medallion . . . Starting at center, ch 11, join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 1, 18 sc in ring. join with sl st in 1st sc.

2nd rnd: Ch 1, sc in same place as sl st, * ch 5, sk 2 sts, sc in next st. Repeat from * around, joining last ch-5 with sl st in 1st sc (6 loops).
3rd rnd: In each loop make sc, h dc, 5 dc, h dc and sc. join.

4th rnd: * Ch 6, sc in back of next sc on 2nd rnd. Repeat from * around. join last ch-6 with sl st in first st of first ch-6 (6 loops).

5th rnd: * In next loop make sc, h dc, 5 dc, h dc and sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. join.

6th rnd: * Make a p loop, sc in center dc of next petal, p loop, sc in sc between petals. Repeat from * around. join with sl st in base of 1st p loop.

7th rnd: Sl st across to between p's of 1st p loop, ch 6, sc in 4th ch from hook, ch 1, sc in end p loop on neckband, ch 5, sc in 4th ch from hook, ch 3, sc in next p loop on medallion, * ch 6, sc in 4th ch from hook, ch 1, sc in next p loop on neckband, ch 5, sc in 4th ch from hook, ch 3, sc in next p loop on medallion. Repeat from * once more (3 joinings), finish remainder of rnd with p loops. Fasten off.

Second Medallion . . . Work as for 1st medallion until 6th rnd is complete.
7th rnd: Sl st across to between p's of 1st p loop, ch 6, sc in 4th ch from hook, ch 1, sc in 2nd p loop (from last joining) on 1st medallion, join next p loop to next p loop on 1st medallion and following 3 p loops to next 3 p loops on neckband, finish rnd with no more joinings. Fasten off.

Make 7 more medallions, joining them as 2nd medallion was joined to 1st. Fasten off.

With right side facing attach thread in 2nd free p loop on 1st medallion, ch 7 (to count as tr tr), d tr in next p loop, * (make a p loop, in next p loop make sc, p loop and sc) 3 times; make a p loop, d tr in next p loop, tr tr in joining of next p loops, d tr in next p loop of next medallion. Repeat from * across, ending with (make a p loop, in next p loop make sc, p loop and sc) 3 times; make a p loop, d tr in next p loop, tr tr in next p loop (63 p loops). Turn.

3rd row: Sl st to center of 1st p loop, ch 1, sc in same place, * make a p loop, sc in next p loop. Repeat from * across ending with p loop, join with sl st in 1st sc made (112 p loops). Hereafter work is done in rnds.

Next rnd: Sl st to center of 1st p loop, ch 1, sc in same place, * make a p loop, sc in next p loop. Repeat from * around. Join last p loop with sl st in 1st sc made (112 p loops). Turn.
Repeat last rnd until piece measures 4 1/2 inches (5 inches) from neck edge. Turn.

Next rnd: Sl st to center of 1st p loop, ch 1, sc in same place, (make a p loop, sc in next p loop) 18 times; make a p loop, sk next 20 p loops (sleeve) sc in next p loop, (make a p loop, sc in next p loop) 35 times; make a p loop, sk next 20 p loops (sleeve), sc in next p loop, (make a p loop, sc in next p loop) 16 times; make a p loop, sl st in 1st sc made (72 p loops). Turn.
Continue working over these 72 p loops as before until piece measures 12 1/2 inches (13 1\2 inches) from center front neck edge or length desired. join and fasten off.

First Medallion . . . Work as for 1st medallion of neck edge until 6th rnd is completed.

7th rnd: Sl st to center of 1st p loop, ch 6, sc in 4th ch from hook, ch 1, sc in any p loop on last rnd of dress, ch 5, sc in 4th ch from hook, ch 3, sc in next p loop on medallion, * ch 6, sc in 4th ch from hook, ch 1, sc in next p loop on dress, ch 5, sc in 4th ch from hook, ch 3, sc in next p loop on medallion. Repeat from * two more times (4 joinings). Complete medallion. Fasten off,

Second Medallion . . . Work as for 1st medallion until 6th rnd is completed.

7th rnd: Sl st to center of 1st p loop, ch 6, sc in 4th ch from hook, ch 1, sc in 2nd p loop (from last joining) on 1st medallion, join next p loop to next p loop on 1st medallion and the following 4 p loops to next 4 p loops on dress, finish medallion with no more joinings. Fasten off.

Make 16 more medallions, joining them as 2nd medallion was joined to 1st and joining last medallion to 1st medallion. Fasten off.

SLEEVES . . . Attach thread in next free p loop of Sleeve, ch 1, sc in same place where thread was attached, * make a p loop, sk next p loop, sc in next p loop, (make a p loop, sc in next p loop) 3 times. Repeat from * around to last p loop, ch 6, sc in 4th ch from hook, tr tr in joining of next p loops on skirt, ch 5, sc in 4th ch from hook, ch 3, join with sl st in 1st sc made (16 p loops).

Now work 4 medallions and attach to last 16 p loops same as medallions were attached to lower edge of skirt. Fasten off. Attach thread at right back neck edge. * Ch 5, sc in next p loop. Repeat from * to base of back opening. Ch 2, sc in next p loop on opposite edge. Work ch-5 loops up left side to neck edge. Ch 1, turn. Now work 7 sc in each ch-5 loop around. Fasten off. Sew button to left back neck edge ,incl use a loop on right edge for buttonhole.

Press lightly on wrong side through damp cloth on a well-padded surface.

Cap, Bootees and Mittens


MATERIALS: CHADWICK'S RED HEART BABY WOOL, 3 Ply, Shrink-and-Stretch Resist Finish, Art. E.275: 3 skeins (3/4 0z. "Tangle-Proof" Pull-Out Skeins) of No. 1 White and 1 skein of No.802 Baby Blue. Clark's O.N.T. Plastic Crochet Hook No.4. 2 white pearl buttons.

GAUGE: 6 sc make 1 inch; 7 rows make 1 inch.
CAP-First Section . . . Starting at bottom with White, ch 20. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.

2nd to 11th rows: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.

12th row: Work off first 2 sc as 1 sc (1 sc decreased), sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat last row until 1 sc remains. Break off. Make 4 more sections the same way.

To join sections: Holding 2 sections together and working through both thicknesses to join, attach Blue to top and sl st closely across one side. Break off. Join remaining sections the same way. Join last section to first section. Attach Blue to 7th sc of starting chain on any section and sc in each ch around. Join and break off. Attach White to first sc, sc in same sc and in each sc across until there are 33 sc on row. Break off.

VISOR . . .1st row: Mark off 3 sc at center of last row made. Using yarn double, attach White to first sc, 2 sc in each of the 3 sc. Turn. 2nd row: sc in each sc across, sc in next 5 sc on cap. Turn.

3rd to 7th rows: Sc in each sc across, sc in end sc on each row, sc in next 5 sc on cap. Turn.

8th row: Sc in each sc across Visor. Break off. Attach Blue to next sc on cap preceding Visor, sc in each sc across, sI st in next sc on cap. Break off.

CORD . . . Cut 6 strands of White each 18 inches long. Twist these strands tightly, then double these strands and give them a twist in the opposite direction. Fasten ends securely. Sew Cord to front of Cap. Sew a button to each side of Cord.

BOOTEE (Make 2)-Sole

Starting at center with White, ch 20. 1st rnd: 3 dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next 2 ch, half dc in next ch, Sc in next 2 ch, half dc in next ch, dc in next 3 ch, tr in next 6 ch, 9 tr in last ch; working along opposite side of starting chain make tr in next 6 ch, dc in next 3 ch, half dc in next ch, sc in next 2 ch, half dc in next ch, dc in next 2 ch, 3 dc in same place where first 3 dc were made. SI st in 3rd ch of starting chain. 2nd and 3rd rnds: Sc in each st around, increasing around curved ends as necessary to keep work flat: to inc 1 sc, make 2 sc in 1 sc. Join. Break off at end of 3rd rnd.

UPPER-Instep . . . Starting at center with White, ch 8. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, 3 sc in last ch; working along opposite side of starting chain make sc in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.

2nd to 5th rows: Sc in each sc across, increasing 3 sc evenly over rounded end. Ch 1, turn. At end of 5th row, ch 33 for ankle, sl st in first sc.

SIDE PIECE . . .1st rnd: Sc in back loop of each sc and in each ch around. Join. 2nd, 3rd and 4th rnds: Sc in each sc around. Join. Break off at end of 4th rnd. Attach Blue to front loop of first sc on 5th row of Instep, sc closely around entire Instep. Join and break off.

CUFF . . 1st rnd: Attach White to opposite side of starting chain on side piece, ch 4, * skip 1 st, dc in next st, ch 1. Repeat from * around. Join.

2nd rnd: Sc in same place as sI st, sc in each sp and in each dc around. Join.

3rd to 7th rnds incl: Sc in each sc around. Join. Break off at end of 7th rnd.

8th rnd: Attach Blue to same place as sI st, sc in each sc around. Join and break off.

Pin Sole in place, attach Blue to back and, working through both thicknesses, sc closely around. Join and break off. With White make a chain 12 inches long. Lace through sps on cuff. With Blue make 2 small pompons and sew one to each end of chain. Tie into a bow.

MITTEN (Make 2)-Back
Starting at center, ch 10. Work as for Instep of Bootee until 5 rows have been completed.

6th row: Sc in each sc across, increasing 3 sc evenly at rounded end.

CUFF . . .1st row: Ch 4 and, working across straight edge, skip end st of first 2 rows, dc in end st of next row,* ch 1, skip end st of next row, dc in end at of next row. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn.

2nd row: Sc in each dc and in each ch-1 sp across, sc in 3rd ch of turning ch-4. Ch 1, turn.

3rd to 6th rows: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Break off at end of 6th row.

FRONT...Work exactly as for Back. Holding both pieces together and working through both thicknesses to join, attach Blue to side and sc closely around to opposite side. Break off. Attach Blue to edge of Cuff, sc closely around. Join and break off. With White, make a chain 10 inches long. Lace through ch-1 sps on cuff. Make 2 small pompons and sew one to each end of chain.

What You Need: ROYAL SOCIETY BABY PEARL 2 balls; ROYAL MOULINE, 1 skein of a contrasting color, Steel Crochet Hook No 6, 2 small pearl buttons.
GAUGE- 10 sts make 1 inch; 11 rows make 1 inch.

Starting at neck edge ch 100 to measure 10 inches. 1st row- Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (99 sc) Ch 1, turn.

2nd Row- Sc in back loop of 25 sts ch 2, sc in back loop of next 17 sts, ch 2, sc in both loops of next 15 sts (center panel), ch 2, sc in back loop of next 17 sts, ch 2, sc in back loop of next 25 sts. Ch 1, turn.

3rd row- (Sc in back loop of each st to next ch 2 sp, 3 sc in sp) twice (2 increases made). Sc in both loops of each st in center panel, sc in sp (an increase), sc in back loop of each st across to next ch 2 sp, 3 sc in sp (an increase), sc in back loop of each remaining st. Ch 1, turn.

4th row- (Sc in back loop of each st to center st of next sc group, ch 2, sk center st of group) twice; sc in both loops of each st of center panel, ch 2 sk center st of 3 sc group, sc in back loop of each st across to center st of next 3 sc group, ch 2, sk center st, sc in back loop of each remaining st. Ch 1, turn.

5th to 9th rows incl- Repeat 3rd and 4th rows alternately twice, then repeat 3rd row once more. Fasten off, turn. Attach thread in center st of first increase point. Hereafter work back and forth to correspending increase point on opposite side, continuing pattern and increases over the 2 center increase points at the same time decreasing 1 st at both ends of every 3rd row until bib measures 3 1\2 inches down center front — to deaease, work off 2 sc as 1 sc. Fasten off.

EDGING ... 1st row: Attach thread to neck edge at back, ch 1, sc in same place where thread was attached, (ch 6, sk ends of next 3 rows, sc in end of next row) twice (2 button-loops made). Ch 5, * sk 1 sc, dc in next sc, ch 1. Repeat from * across to 1st increase point, then ** sk end of next row, dc in end of following row, ch 1. Repeat from ** across to corner; in corner make dc, ch 3 and dc. Continue in this manner along entire outer edge, ending with dc in last sc. Ch 1, turn.

2nd row: Sc in 1st dc, * ch 4, 2 dc in last sc, sc in next sp. Repeat from * around to buttonloops on other end, make 5 sc in each loop. Fasten off. Sew on buttons.

EMBROIDERY . . . Trace figures from diagram onto light-weight paper. Pin tracing in place on center panel. With only one strand of Royal Mouline, embroider figures through paper onto bib, using very small outine stitches.

Booties...
What You Need: ROYAL SOCIETY BABY PEARL 3 balls. Steel Crochet Hook No. 8. 1 yard ribbon, 1\2 inch wide.

TOE PIECE ... Ch 15 (to measure 1 1\4 inches). 1st row: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across (13 dc, counting turning chain as 1 dc). Ch 3, turn.

2nd to 6th rows incl: Dc in each dc across and in top st ot turning ch. Ch 3, turn. At end of 6th row, ch 55 for ankle, sl st in first st at beginning of 6th row. Fasten off. Now work in rnds as follows: 1st rnd: Attach thread to center st of ch-55 (this is center back), ch 3, dc in 27 ch, then work across edge of Toe Piece, making dc in top of each end dc or turning ch as the case may be, and 2 dc in the side of each end st (18 sts along side of Toe Piece). Make dc in each st of foundation chain of Toe Piece, work along other edge of Toe Piece as before, dc in each remaining ch, sl st in top st of starting chain (104 sts).

2nd to 7th rnds incl: Ch 3, dc in each dc around. Join.

8th, 9th and 10th rnds: Dc in each dc around, decreasing 5 dc evenly across toe and 5 dc evenly across heel on each rnd — to decrease a dc, work off 2 dc as 1 dc (75 sts). Join. Fasten off at end ot 10th rnd.

Sew edges together. Count up 4 rnds from seam just made, attach thread in st at center back and with seam facing work sc through top of each dc on this rnd, thus forming a ridge around sole. Fasten off.

Now work top in rnds as follows: 1st rnd: Attach thread to center st of ankle chain, sc in same place, * ch 5, sk 2 sts, in next st make dc, ch 3 and dc; ch 5, sk 2 sts, sc in next st. Repeat from * 3 more times; ch 5, sk the 3 remaining sts of side and 2 sts of

Toe Piece, in next st make dc, ch 3 and dc; ch 5, sk 3 sts, sc in next st, ch 5, sk 3 sts, in next st make dc, ch 3 and dc, ch 5, sk 2 sts of Toe Piece and 3 sts of side, sc in next st and work along side as before, ending with ch 5, sl st in 1st sc made.

2nd rnd: Ch 6, * in sp (between dc's) make sc, ch 3 and sc; ch 3, dc in sc, ch 3. Repeat from * around, ending with ch-3, sl st in 3id st of starting ch-6.

3rd rnd: Ch 3, * in ch-3 loop (between sc's) make three clusters with ch-3 between — to make a cluster, holding back the last loop of each tr on hook make 3 tr in same place, thread over and draw through all loops on hook; dc in next dc. Repeat from * around, ending with sl st in top st of starting chain.

4th rnd: Ch 6, sc in next sp (between clusters), ch 3, sc in next sp, ch 3, dc in dc, ch 3. Repeat from * around, ending rnd as before.

5th to 10th rnds incl: Repeat 3rd and 4th rnds alternately 3 more times.

llth rnd: Ch 1, sc in same place as sl st, * ch 3, in ch-3 loop (between sc's) make 3 clusters with 2 p's between each cluster — to make 2 p's (ch 3, sc in 3rd ch from hook twice); ch 3, sc in dc. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 3, sl st in 1st sc made.

Fasten off.
Cut ribbon in half. Run ribbon through sps at ankle and tie in a bow.
